so long good friend

It has been a long and sad weekend, but also refreshing and cleansing. Fleet FM finally closed it’s airwaves once and for all. Yes, no longer will you be able to drive down Symonds Street in Auckland and tune in for just a few minutes to some radio as it has always longed to be.

Thursday was the official last broadcast by your Real Beer Boys, and a great evening was had. And further, your man Shenanigans managed to wangle another hour to churn out some crankers during the weekend long Fleetathon. And below are the two links from those final and prodigious fleetcasts.

thurs 20 May 2010

sat 22 May 2010

But as it is cliched, onwards and upwards.. within the next few posts we will be fully e-volved into our future homo digitalus status, online, sleek and wholly cybernetical.. I will see you in my flying car, listening to the Real Beer Soundsystem directly via a brainpan neural net. er.. maybe..

Ann Peebles – Trouble, Heartache & Sadness

Gladys Knight & The Pips – At Every End There Is A Beginning

that is all/end transmission

doin’ the can can just ‘cos i can can

The thing with heroes is that a) we all need one, unless you’re Tina Turner, and b) they arrive just when you need them. And with that in mind, allow me to present a wee clip (courtesy of the TVNZ’s Breakfast show) of one dedicated soldier of the golden nectar, a man who is most definitely in contention for winning a potential ‘Real Beer Man Of The Year’ award.

I think I’d be disappointed if I ever discovered he didn’t drain each and every one.

Anyway, here are some nice pieces of music for your own brand of hero worshiping:

Roni Size – Heroes (Kruder’s Long Loose Bassa rmx)

Tina Turner – We Don’t Need Another Hero (I love the double T, she’s the baby boomer’s Beyonce)

Rocky Horror Picture Show – Super Heroes

hype the funk

the boys in good times

Just a few more days from now until your stalwarts of sounds, beer and fine cheer host their last show on the regal Fleet FM. To say this will be a momentous occasion will be an exercise in understatement, as we’re going to be recording a whole 4 (!) hours of fleetness to post up. Yes sir, the word on the Symonds Street is that we’ll be collaborating with Nick Takeover for this mammoth session.. so keep those dials tuned to 88.3 5 – 9 pm Thursday, NZ pacific time.. till then then, feast your pointy pixie ears on these delicious hip hop treats from the early ’90′s and one from this decade cos i love ya:

Gang Star – Words I Manifest

Main Source – Live At The Barbecue

Skibadee – Tika Toc

how delicious does this look??

And a big congrats to the one like J-Rod who made the 100 Club this very morn! Cheers indeed my old pal..

the ultimate penultimate

the real beer

as the astute will surmise and above title suggests, yes this is the penultimate show from your pals, the real beer soundsystem, up at fleet towers.. but wait, dry those tears because although the current incarnation of FleetFM is soon to be closing (21st May 2010 to be sure), TRBS will be purely web and gig based..

so onwards and ever upwards, right? below is the link from last night’s show, 7 – 9.. also, i was inspired to play an old DJ Shadow tune (thanks takeover nick), so here below are a couple of remixes of his tunes..

ultimate penultimate – as heard on fleet! 13 May 2010, here be 2 hours of the finest sounds from the system..

El Gingero – Shadow Kick (dj shadow vs lupe fiasco) – nice one vacay

Dj Shadow – Organ Donor (Flirtphonic rmx)   thanks to avenge the virgins

emersons

and your man J-Rod did the honourable thing and actually brought the real beers. a real show favourite, NZ’s own Emersons Pilsner has a well deserved reputation. crisp, subtle and yet it packed with many layers of flavour, this beer is nothing if not one of the most refreshing beverages to come out of Dunedin. i’m not the best beer reviewer, but rest assured the money spent on an Emersons will deliver a fruity punch. And did i mention, it’s organic.. so get your tofu burgers on, chill to the sounds of the real beer and treat yourself, if you can find it..

cheers!

OK.. here is the latest from the last show up in Fleet FM last week. It was a bit of a classic, but J-Rod was absent with a note from his employers so your man shenanigans and Abi were churning out the real sounds of hip hop, dub-tronica and some curly old dance music circa ’92.. please, just give me five minutes to enjoy the reverie.. ahh, that’s better..
